Hawai'i Island
On Sept 25 we arrived in Honolulu for a 10-day visit to Hawai'i. We stayed with Laura's brother and his wife in Kailua for five days. We enjoyed gorgeous Kailua Beach Park and the famous Nu'uanu Pali Lookout. We took a day-trip to Honolulu, were we visited the Zoo - right on Waikiki Beach. We had lunch at a small Korean restaurant in downtown Honolulu and went shopping at the Honolulu Costco :)
On Sept 30 we celebrated Jacob's 4th birthday with a trip to Sealife Park. On Oct. 1 we packed some bags and headed to the airport for a 45-Minute flight to Hawai'i Island's Kona Airport. From there, we drove 30 Min. to Puako Beach, where we stayed at the Ednie family's awesome beach house.
The next day, after spending the morning snorkeling, we piled into the car and drove to the Volcanoes National Park. We explored the area around Kilauea crater and in the evening we drove down Chain of Craters Road. As night fell, we were able to see, in the distance, the red glow of some red lava on Pu'u 'O'o.
The following day, we thoroughly enjoyed Puako Bay, snorkeling with Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles, ocean kayaking, and generally lolly-gagging on the beach.
The following day we returned to O'ahu. Oct 5 was our last full day in Hawai'i, and we worked on getting ready to leave. Still we found some time to go to Kailua beach and in the evening we went to Honolulu for a nice dinner at Gordon Biersch. The next day we went for a last swim at the beach, then we headed to the airport and, with heavy hearts, and lots of wonderful memories, boarded our plane home.
